Music : Recordings/Audio Sources

Search @ Riley Library & Beyond

The search box below will connect you to NNU's online catalog.  From this page you can search titles of books, journals, media & other types of materials owned by Riley Library (NNU). You will also be able to search for materials in libraries worldwide.

Searching For Audio Recordings in the Catalog

When searching the search box on the library's homepage (or the search box above) for CDs, DVDs, or vinyl LPs you can search under:

  • Subject (examples: oboe, instrumental music, opera, etc...)
  • Author (composer's name or specific performer's name)
  • Title (specific album)
  • Key Word (specific song title included in an album)

Hint: you can also choose the Media option in the search box. This will search videos, DVDs, CDs & LPs, but it will not search for scores. For a score search, choose the Everything option.

Where can I find media (CDs, DVDs, videos)?

Most videos and DVDs

  • Shelved amongst books in the Main Collection (2nd floor). Use the call number of the item to find it (or ask for help at the Research Help Desk).  There is not  a separate DVD section.

CD Collection

  • located in front of the Instructional Lab (Room 122) in the Leah Peterson Learning Commons.

What if I don't have a CD player?

Every computer in the Learning Commons is equipped with a CD/DVD drive. Look for it on the side of the monitor.

I want to obtain and play a record (LP). How do I do it?

1. Find the information by using the library's search box. You will need to write down the Call Number (in this example, the call number is M1630.18 .S66 1984)

2. Ask for it and check it out at the Learning Commons Service Desk

3. If you do not have a turntable/record player, talk to the Learning Commons Service Desk employee about arranging a time for TMR to find a record player and set up a listening station. This will not happen immediately (it may take 1-2 days), so plan for extra time to arrange and listen to an LP.
